As New Delhi prepares to host the G20 summit, a consequential diplomatic meeting of important world leaders, the capital is undergoing an aesthetic makeover with murals, paintings, and other projects.



Green Sheets: Before & After


The Central government has initiated an ambitious beautification project in Delhi, involving the refurbishment of roads, the construction of underpasses, and the creation of murals. All of this has led to the displacement of Delhi's slum-dwellers, as well as the areas they live in being covered with plastic sheets and flex boards. On Monday, i.e. 12th of September, evening, MCD officials, assisted by locals, began removing the green sheets.



Lockdown:


Delhi sees a lockdown of sorts with shutters down and roads deserted ahead of G20. From Friday, i.e., 8th of September 2023, the center of the normally bustling and choked city of 20 million wore a deserted look.
